19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit – Matthew 28:19

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an ordinance (something commanded) that the church has practiced throughout its entire history. It’s a way for a follower of Christ to publicly align themselves with Him, and declare that He is Lord and Savior. However, baptism is not what saves us.

Salvation is a gift that we receive through faith in Jesus. It’s only possible because of His atoning work on the cross when He suffered and died in our place. When we humble ourselves and trust Christ as Lord and Savior, our sins are put to death in Him, and we receive new life – this happens at the moment of true faith!

We like to say that baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality. It represents physically something that has already happened spiritually. We confess Christ, which identifies us as sinners who need a Savior, we are immersed under the water, representing the death and burial of our old selves, which is put to death in Christ by His crucifixion, and we rise up out of the water, representing the birth of new life in Christ.

Baptism isn’t something we have to do. But for every follower of Christ, it is absolutely something we should want to do.

16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’ – Acts 22:16 (ESV)

How can I be baptized?

If you are a follower of Christ, and you have never been baptized, we hold a special baptism service once a year in the Spring. It’s an incredible celebration where we hear testimonies of the incredible power of Jesus’ grace at work in people’s lives. The only requirement for baptism is that you are a Christian, and there is some evidence of conversion in your life, so we have a simple interview and baptism class to take.

If you would like to sign up to be baptized at our next baptism service, please fill out and submit the short form below!
